ISABELLA HUNTS
Isabella Hunts is a documentary project comprising a photo book (2019), a museum exhibit (2019, Fotomuseum Den Haag), a master’s thesis, and a non-fiction novel (Atlas/Contact, 2020).
For ten years, I followed hunters across the Netherlands, Germany, Abu Dhabi, the American South and West, and the Brazilian Amazon. Stories were published by Volkskrant Magazine, Vrij Nederland, Vice, and others.
The project explores differences between hunting cultures, and our relationship to food and nature in an industrialized world. It is grounded in historical research into foodways and hunting practices, as well as my deeply lived experience with hunters in the field.
